What started as a 5K fundraiser to support Jessica Krauser after her diagnosis of young-onset Parkinson’s at age 37 has grown into something much bigger. In just a few short years, 5KforJK has evolved from a single event into a full-fledged nonprofit that provides tools, resources, and hope to individuals facing Parkinson’s across the country and with the podcast – the world.
In 2024, we reached new milestones:
- We launched a Polar Plunge fundraiser in April, benefiting a Parkinson’s gym in Jessica’s hometown of Youngstown.
- We delivered First Step Kits at Michael J. Fox Foundation events in Columbus, Hollywood (FL), and Detroit — helping hundreds of newly diagnosed patients start their journeys with knowledge and confidence.
- Our annual 5K walk brought together 500 participants and raised $168,000 — a major increase from $135,000 in 2023.
- We proudly announced that the PDNextSteps exercise program is now officially part of our nonprofit, expanding access to Parkinson’s-specific fitness resources.
- Our podcast, The Secret Life of Parkinson’s, continues to grow with thousands of loyal listeners and inspiring stories that bring both information and comfort to those navigating life with PD.
- Giving Tuesday 2024 raised a record $20,000 — thanks to your support!
And now, we’ve rebranded. Changing Parkinson’s — a name that reflects the full scope of our mission and future vision. This new identity brings together all our programs under one purpose: to equip and empower people living with Parkinson’s to take control of their lives and their futures.

What’s next? In 2025, we aim to:
- Expand distribution of First Step Kits to even more newly diagnosed patients
- Increase podcast reach and produce more educational content
- Grow PDNextSteps locations and access
- Host another record-breaking 5KforJK walk
Together, we are Changing Parkinson’s — one step, one story, and one act of support at a time.
